Philippine Superliga, the premiere semi-professional volleyball league
in the Philippines, is set to cap off its exciting season with the introduction
of the league's own literal dessert, the 2018 Collegiate Grand Slam. Players
from six collegiate teams across the country are slated to showcase their own spikes
and skills in a one-of-a-kind weekly affair that should add delight to volleyball
buffs and there is nothing more that we can expect from this than that.
Competing in Philippine Superliga's first ever collegiate volleyball tournament are four UAAP teams which include the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons, University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Tigresses, Far Waste n University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, and University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors. Also making waves in what would probably be a highly competitive ground for the future stars of Philippine volleyball are from Colegio de San Agustin Biñan and De La Salle University - Dasmariñas.
These six teams will compete in round robin preliminaries. However,
unlike the PSL's main conferences, only the top two teams with the most number
of wins will move on to the finals while the 3rd and 4th after the preliminary
round are set to do battle for third place. With this in mind, the PSL Collegiate
Grand Slam is one intriguing tournament for volleyball fans to enjoy and indulge
all throughout the holiday season. Oh, and I almost forgot that all the games
of the Collegiate Grand Slam are every Saturday starting at 12:00 noon and it
all begins on November 3, 2018.
Before I forget, the neighbor of good news and fresh stories would like
to congratulate the Philippine Superliga for being included in the list of
finalists for Best Women's Sports Event in the upcoming 2018 SPIA (Sports
Personality and Industry Awards) Asia Awards and the only one in the
Philippines to be officially nominated in what is dubbed as the Oscars of
sports. At least this nomination would give a huge boost to the league's
continuing success and become a delightful start to its season finale.
Catch the Philippine
Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam 2018 every Saturday beginning the 3rd of
November on ESPN5 and ESPN5.com. For more Philippine Superliga updates, follow
