PLDT
(Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company) and its sister company Smart
Communications have officially fired the first shots on the next generation of
high-speed internet with the simultaneous activation of their first 5G cell sites
in two different landmarks across Luzon, the PLDT headquarters in Makati City
and Smart's first 5G city in the Philippines inside the Clark Freeport Zone in
Clark, Pampanga.
The
on-air activation of these two sites is literally the beginning of PLDT and
Smart's new efforts to deploy and activate 5G cell sites across different parts
of the country which is set to begin in 2019, and this momentous occasion would
not become possible without the help of their partners who are committed for
the fulfillment of these endeavors. A few months ago, PLDT and Smart tapped globally
renouned telco giant Ericcson for the 5G network infrastructure within all
corners of their mother building.
Meanwhile,
a few days prior to the occasion, PLDT and Smart have signed a Memorandum of
Agreement with Clark Development Corporation (CDC) which will transform the
Clark Freeport Zone into the country's first 5G city. These highly intriguing
bevy of events that has taken place throughout the course of 2018 are mainly
part of PLDT and Smart's continuing contributions to the Philippine telecommunications
industry with the coming of the third telco brand that will take on the giants
on the horizon.
