In
1994, former Lipa City mayor Ruben L. Umali has longed for an institution that
can provide free quality tertiary education to many young Lipeños and it was
eventually made possible through the engaging push of Councilor Nilo Catipon.
Thus, the Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa was born which was once known as the Lipa
City Public College amidst the challenges that have attempted to hinder its impending
opening.
Throughout
the course of its silver lining journey, KLL has persevered in its commitment
to provide the best college education possible to young Lipeños whose families
could not afford to send them to tertiary educational institutions outside the
city and the best thing about the public institution is that they can get there
for free giving them extra time and effort to prepare themselves for their
future. In fact, KLL is keen in producing many graduates over the years that come
from low and middle income class families across the city and are successful in
their respective careers with some of them being renouned in the world of politics
and business. Its silver lining journey is well worth deserving at the start of
the new millennium when it was recognized by the League of Cities in the Philippines
(LCP) as among the top five Best Practices in the country.
But
the biggest fruit that the college has reaped is the opening of its new main
campus situated between Brgy. Maraouy and Dagatan which was in late 2009 where
I was among the hundreds of graduating students at the time who have graced it.
This was followed by the opening of new course offerings which include Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Communication and
Bachelor of Science in Criminology. On the other hand, it is good to know that
the old KLL campus in the Old City Hall Compound is not one to be left out as
it is tapped as the home for the institution's College of Education.
