The People's Queen has created a buzz in the world of pageantry and
made headlines in 2018 with some of its pageant hopefuls winning in various
international beauty competitions. Now, Filipino and Asian binge-watchers can
find out for themselves what makes this reality show an interesting trendsetter
to watch out for as The People's Queen is now available for online streaming
and offline viewing on the region's leading online entertainment service iflix.
Hosted by media celebrities Cecilio Asuncion and Voltaire Tayag and
highly regarded as a cross between Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and America's
Next Top Model, The People's Queen features five top Filipino pageant hopefuls
in their quests for international titles and hopes to become what the show is
all about. The five hopefuls that have taken part in the show were as follows:
- Nikita McElroy, a biracial beauty confronting her bullied past;
- Katrina Dimaranan, who has spent years focusing on the needs of her
immigrant family and may have missed her chances to vie for an international
title;
- Jenny Levy, a 15-year old pageant newbie who may be too rough around
the edges;
- Michelle Thorlund, an overly shy hopeful who wants to break out of
her shell if she wants to compete in the Miss Philippines pageant; and
- Katarina Rodriguez, Asia's Next Top Model runner-up and former Miss
Intercontinental Philippines.
By the time the show was aired in North America via ABS-CBN's The
Filipino Channel (TFC) and MYX TV in October 2018, Dimaranan won first runner
up in Miss Supranational 2018 in Poland while Katarina was crowned Miss World
Philippines. With such outcome on hand, iflix Philippines content and marketing
head Georgette Tengco stated that many binge-watching pageant fans will be
curious to know what makes a beauty queen. In any case, The People's Queen being
offered on iflix may be an essential platform that can resonate well with the
Philippine audience as the pageant season draws near.
The People's Queen is ABS-CBN International's first foray into a
reality show in English with an Asian American cast beyond one of its flagship
channels, MYX TV, with Thigh High Productions as co-producer and ABS-CBN Global
chief operating officer Olivia de Jesus as executive producer along with
ABS-CBN North and Latin America managing director Jun Del Rosario, John Lazatin
and Glenn Meehan whose previous executive producer credit include the long-running
TLC reality series Little People, Big World. ABS-CBN International is, of course,
a subsidiary of the Philippines' premiere media and entertainment company and the
world's largest Filipino media company ABS-CBN Corporation.
