For
more than a decade, "Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo" (BMPM) has been teaching young
and adult Filipinos to use their mobile phones to report any concern or
wrongdoing in their community. Now, ABS-CBN News' social journalism arm is
challenging the future of the Filipino nation to use their phones to fight
disinformation and fake news by participating in BMPM Digitales: A Mobile Documentary
Contest.
An
offshoot of BMPM's 2016 mobile shorts contest SinePatrol, BMPM Digitales is
inviting enrolled Filipino college students aged 18-22 years old to produce a
three to five minute documentary using only their own smartphones for shooting
and editing with the theme "Gusto Ko Tama: Fighting Disinformation In
Social Media". In coordination with the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the project aims to educate the
younger generation on responsible social media use and how to discern fake from
real information.
Multi-awarded
broadcast journalist Jeff Canoy is among those who are encouraging students to
take part in the contest considering that he recently produced a mobile documentary
for the current affairs program #NoFilter about the genuine love between a
mother and her child with down syndrome. He used only his mobile phone to shoot
and edit the said documentary. BMPM Digitales can provide the youth with an
avenue for them to put their creativity to good use and eventually help in
educating other people about fake news and on how to make social media a safe space
for everyone.
For
the full mechanics on the mobile documentary contest, interested students may

Php10,000. For news on the contest, follow BMPM on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
