Pop culture buffs and superhero fans, more particularly those of the
Marvel Cinematic Universe, were rejoiced when they learned from their own sources
that Marvel Studios and Sony sealed a new deal that would bring Spiderman back
to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it was a done deal for sure after the
thought of the web-slinging hero leaving the said universe broke many fans'
hearts about a month ago. With that in mind, I guess we should thank the man
who is literally responsible for Spiderman's return to the MCU - himself.
When news of what was once a failed renewal between Sony and Marvel
broke through, Tom Holland reportedly appealed to the head honchos of both Sony
and Disney to reconsider their decision in which they did. In case you didn't
know, Holland plays the title character in Spiderman: Homecoming and Spiderman:
Far From Home which were both huge blockbuster hits on the big screens. The new
deal, which was recently reported by Variety, allows both companies to bring Spidey
back to the MCU for two more movies - the third Spiderman movie starring Tom Holland
following Homecoming and Far From Home which is slated to release on July 2021
and an undisclosed MCU film - with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing
them.
Marvel and Sony will both gain 25% of the profits from the new deal but
the former will keep handling the merchandising rights for Spiderman which is
one intriguing development about their rekindled renewal. At least we can say
that these two upcoming movies will surely wrap up Spiderman's stay in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe for the foreseeable future. There will also be a bevy
of various possibilities that can add flavor to Spidey's extended stay such as
the addition of Venom to the fray and these are just some of what we can hope
for to come to the big screens around the globe in the next few years
The new deal between Marvel and Sony regarding Spiderman has surely
generated a lot of buzz when it was reported on local and international media
outlets, and I believe that most of the credit for what made it possible goes
to the appeal of Tom Holland which can be considered an unexpectedly surprising
fact that is delightful to indulge in. It all depends on whether Spiderman's
return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be as impactful as his previous
outings or go beyond them and exceed expectations of any superhero fan or pop
culture buff. Anyway, thank you, Spiderman, for saving the day and we'll see
you in mid-2021. Excelsior!!
