For
the love of family and the sport of basketball, three rising collegiate athletes
dared themselves to leave the comfort zone and make their dreams come true on
their own. Join Ateneo Blue Eagles' Ange Kouame, UP Fighting Maroons' Ricci Rivero
and UST Fighting Tigers' Rhenz Sabido as they tell the story behind their
inspiring journey to the biggest stage yet of their young basketball careers in
the iWant original sports documentary "Dayories".
Produced
in cooperation with the ABS-CBN Sports digital team headed by veteran sports
analyst and "The Score" host Mico Halili and directed by Enzo Marcos,
the three-part documentary series traces the roots of Ange, Ricci and Rhenz and
the grit and grind it took for them to make an impact in the UAAP (Universities
Athletic Association of the Philippines) stage. "iWant and ABS-CBN Sports
have a similar objective in giving sports fans stories that inspire. It was
also a great next step since iWant already provides the livestream UAAP
experience. Fans will now get to know UAAP stars through deeper storytelling,"
shared Halili.
The
first episode focuses on the big man from Ateneo De Manila University. Born and
raised in Ivory Coast in Africa, Kouame has been living in the Philippines
since 2016 to get his education and pursue his NBA dream. The 21-year old immediately
earned the respect of the UAAP community in Season 81 where he won Rookie Of
The Year and eventually helped his team defend its title, overcoming the
language barrier and the difficulty of being away from his mother. The
following season, he became an unstoppable force inside the paint and one of
the main reasons behind Ateneo's unblemished record in the recently-concluded
UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament.
In
the second episode, the highly-touted small forward Ricci shares his challenges
of transferring schools from De La Salle University to the University of the
Philippines Diliman, starting all over again in terms of his academics and
adjusting his game to fit in a team loaded with talent and alphas in the court.
Outside the paint, the spotlight continues to focus on his BS Tourism major
while engaging as a product endorser, budding actor and host. On the other hand,
UAAP fans can also get to know the La Union native Rhenz whose meteoric rise
from being an unknown recruit to one of the league's most exciting players was
hailed as one of this season's best storylines. The rookie's rumored transfer in
the middle of the season gave him his first taste of the downside to fame, but
he was able to regain his focus with the help of his teammates and made it to
his first finals appearance.
Ange
Kouame, Ricci Rivero, and Rhenz Sabido have left home, sacrificed comfort and
put in extra work in pursuit of their goals and life-long dreams. Along the way,
these three future stars of Philippine basketball have found success and more
importantly a home and a family. All three episodes of "Dayories" can
now be streamed online for free on iWant.ph for PCs and the iWant mobile app
for smartphones.
