De La Salle Lipa (DLSL), one of the premiere educational institutions in the city of Lipa and the province of Batangas, is set to add a new feather on its cap of achievements after reaching the finals of the 2020 International Green Gown Awards and becoming the only higher educational institution in the Philippines to be named finalist in three diffferent categories, namely: Sustainable Institution of the Year, Student Engagement and Benefitting Society.

The International Green Gown Awards (IGGA) is open to schools, colleges and universities across the globe that commemorate landmark sustainability programs and initiatives. De La Salle Lipa is a staunch supporter of environmental and sustainability efforts and has pioneered programs that should be emulated by other educational institutions across the country. It also happens to be a styro and plastic-free campus considering that stryofoam and PET (polyethylene terephtalate) plastic battles which do not decompose and thus the ecosystem within a community or so. Minimizing the use of greenhouse gases is also part of DLSL's advocacy for the well-being of the environment and communities.

The 2020 International Green Gown Awards is under the auspices of and supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in cooperation with the UK-based EAUC Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education and the Paris-based International Association of Universities. Backed by the UNEP, the International Green Gown Awards continues to search for and honor inspirational sustainability prime movers and leaders. Acknowledging exceptional sustainability initiatives being carried out by the world's universities and colleges, IGGA established the desired standards of quality and put every learning institution at the core of delivering and fulfilling the United Nations' global goals for the foreseeable future.

The International Green Gown Awards is administered by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) in collaboration with The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), L' Agence Universitaite de la Francophonie (AUF), International Association of Universities (IAU) and the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative. Winners will be announced on July 8, 2020 in a virtual ceremony. For more information, visit https://www.greengownawards.org/international-green-gown-awards-2020.
