Global streaming service Netflix has announced a new slate of beloved and critically-acclaimed Filipino films across a variety of genres - horror, comedy, drama - that are set to be released on the service throughout the month of June. These latest additions are slated to further open millions of Netflix subscribers around the world to more diverse storytelling from a country of 7,107 islands considering that they come from leading local mainstream and independent film production firms including VIVA Films, ERJ Found Films, Black Cap Pictures and Changhe Films.

These new titles are set to follow the success of other Filipino movie titles on Netflix such as Star Cinema's Eerie and VIVA Films' The Girl Allergic To WiFi and Miss Granny which were among the top ten most popular titles in the country in 2019 as well as the December 2019 release of the Filipino-produced Netflix original flick Dead Kids by award-winning director Mikhail Red. "With the world's inevitable shift to digital platforms for content, it is reassuring that Netflix gives us a showcase of Filipino titles for more audiences and markets to have access to," said Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairperson Liza Diño. "The growing slate of Filipino content on Netflix is a true reflection of the diversity of what Philippine cinema has to offer, and Netflix giving space to more Filipino films is an affirmation that the Philippines has the potential of globalizing its own market," she added.
