P&G Joins DOH In PH's Ongoing Fight Against COVID-19

P&G PH, DOH Join Forces For BIDA Solusyon Sa COVID-19

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Philippines, the national government headed by the Department of Health (DOH) has been keen on containing the virus and preventing its spread through the implementation of strict community quarantine measures across most parts of the country. However, the continuous increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks reinforce the importance of practicing healthy habits and preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.

To help overcome such a huge challenge, the DOH collaborated with leading consumer goods manufacturer of health and hygiene products, Procter and Gamble (P&G) Philippines, for BIDA Solusyon Sa COVID-19, a nationwide educational campaign that empowers every Filipino to be an instrument of change in the nation's fight against COVID-19. P&G Philippines and DOH have always shared the same purpose and intent and that is to keep Filipino families safe and healthy. The company is now sharing its brands, expertise, network and reach in order to help Filipinos protect themselves and their loved ones during these trying times.

In Pinoy parlance, a "bida" represents someone who takes the lead, steps up and becomes a hero in crucial situations. BIDA Solusyon Sa COVID-19 seeks to remind ordinary Filipinos that setting proper examples of maintaining hygiene and sanitation within one's community and one's home through informed and disciplined practices would greatly contribute to the fight against the pandemic. BIDA stands for the following: Bawal walang mask (not wearing mask is prohibited); i-sanitize ang mga kamay, iwas-hawak sa mga bagay (sanitize your hands and avoid touching things); dumistansya ng isang metro (practice social distancing and always stand one meter away); and alamin ang tamang impormasyon (get the latest news and information from reliable sources).

With 85 years of expertise in home hygiene products, P&G Philippines will focus on the I (i-sanitize ang mga kamay, iwas-hawak sa mga bagay) component of BIDA and looks to further promote good home hygiene practices through four key values: handwashing with soap for 20 seconds, bathing as soon as one gets home, separating used clothes and washing them immediately, and cleaning the kitchen and dishes. It will also release a wide range of educational multimedia materials across TV, print and online platforms to remind Filipinos of their role to keep their loved ones safe and healthy especially the vulnerable members of the family such as the elderly, immuno-compromised and the children. P&G is also set to launch BIDA hygiene solution centers which will offer and provide educational materials and hygiene materials to more than four million Filipino consumers in 96 supermarkets nationwide. These solution centers can also help provide a more convenience store-esque experience to customers who may purchase all their home hygiene products in one central area so that they can shop quickly and minimize long queues inside the grocery store.

Furthermore, through BIDA Solusyon Sa COVID-19, P&G Philippines and DOH have partnered with the US Agency For International Development (USAID) to produce BIDA home kits and distribute them to more than 70,000 vulnerable families from communities that are highly susceptible to the virus, citizens situated in COVID-19 hotspots and quarantine facilities, locally stranded individuals and displaced persons in temporary shelters. These BIDA home kits contain P&G's most trusted health and hygiene products including Safeguard soap, Head & Shoulders shampoo, Ariel detergent and Joy dishwashing liquid.
