Top 15 Revealed For 2020 Edition Of PhilPop Songwriting Tilt

PhilPop (Philippine Popular Music Festival), the premiere songwriting competition in the country, has been consistently keen on its advocacy to nurture future global hitmakers through its sustainable platform and world-class mentorship program. Despite the challenges of the new normal, the songwriting tilt continues to develop a pool of game-changing songwriters and composers from different parts of the country and showcase a diverse selection of music that elicits cultural conversations and reflects contemporary narratives with substance.
From thousands of submissions by aspiring and renouned songwriters, PhilPop has officially revealed the top 15 finalists for the 2020 edition of its songwriting competition from five different regions in the Philippines namely North Luzon, South Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao. Here are the finalists as announced during a series of Kwentuhan Sessions streamed online via Facebook Live:

North Luzon
- "Agsardeng", Abigail Esteban and TJ Paeldon
- Balikan", Lolito Go
- "Paos", Angelic Mateo

South Luzon
- "Para Kay Catriona", Kulas Basilonia
- "Lunod", Chichay Magno
- "Bitaw", Princess Roselle Germina

Metro Manila - "Huling Sayaw", Kian Dionisio
- "Bestiny", Aikee
- "Mapa", Aikee

Visayas
- "Ayaw Na Lang", Jerika Teodorico
- "Suyo", Noah Alejandre and Reanne Borela
- "Hinungdan", Michael Catarina

Mindanao
- "Akong Bililhon", John Cadaliña
- "Kasadya", Christian Chiu
- "Pahuway", Sherwin Fugoso

These entries have gone into multiple rounds of adjudication headed by PhilPop MusicFest Festival Chairman and National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab as well as PhilPop MusicFest Foundation Board Members, adjudicators, partners and executives from Warner Music Philippines such as PhilPop MusicFest Foundation President Victorico P. Vargas, Festival Co-Chair and PhilPop MusicFest Foundation Board Member Noel Cabangon, PhilPop MusicFest Foundation Executive Director Dinah A. Remolacio, PhilPop MusicFest Foundation Lead Adjudicators Jungee Marcelo and Trina Belarmide, Warner Music Philippines Managing Director Ian Monsod, MinPop MusicFest Director and Mindanao Cluster Partner Jeremy Sarmiento, Kadasig Founder and Visayas Cluster Partner Jude Gitamondoc, UP Jammers Club Alumnus' Resident Producer and South Luzon Cluster Partner Caio Cadiz, and A.M. Studios' Resident Producer and North Luzon Cluster Partner Melvin Moralles.

The grand finals of the 2020 PhilPop songwriting competition is slated to be held on December 12, 2020. An initiative of the PhilPop MusicFest Foundation with Manuel V. Pangilinan as chairman, PhilPop 2020 is co-presented by Smart Communications, MERALCO and MAYNILAD with official partners Warner Music Philippines, Kadasig and MinPop.
