Imagine my surprise when I learned that my beloved BookSale's treasure trove of publications can now be availed at the online shopping portal Shopee, and that is freshly delightful for those who are stuck at home due to the pandemic but clamoring for what they can add to their quarantine reading pile without the need to go outside. In fact, this was announced by award-winning essayist, fictionist and poet Shakira Sison on her official Twitter account who surprisingly happens to be the daughter of the man who founded and built BookSale from the ground up to where it stands today prior to the pandemic.
According to her tweet, Sison encouraged her followers to support her father's greatest gift to the local book reading masses and its employees - most of them have been with him for decades - who are also struggling like anybody else whose livelihoods are affected by the pandemic. Averagely priced at Php185-300 per book, self-isolated book buffs can add several booksellers to their reading pile such as The Life of Pi (softcover) by Yann Martel (Php185), Insurgent (hardbound) by Veronica Mars (Php270), and even a hardcover 6-in-1 Marvel Cinematic Universe Story Book Collection (Php425) just to name a few.
There are over 130 titles listed on BookSale's Shopee account since its inception in August, but book lovers can expect more to become available in the coming months. Those who have literally entered the doors of BookSale's Shopee account via the website or mobile app may browse for their preferred best buy by categories including fiction, non-fiction, history and biographies, computers and technology, art and poetry, and comicbooks among others. On the other hand, BookSale has also made some of its titles available via online purchase through its official Facebook page, regularly posting of photos of book covers with prices and where to find and buy them. It may take a long time for everything to go back the way it was, but Filipino book lovers and readers will have more reasons why books can refresh and delight our minds and hearts when times like the pandemic get tough. And there's no better place for self-isolated book buffs to look for well-preserved finds than everyone's favorite budget bookstore, BookSale.
