On December 4, 2020, Federacion Internationale De Basketball (FIBA) officially unveiled its new official logo for the 2023 Basketball World Cup which is slated to be held from August 25 to September 10, 2023 in the cities of Manila in the Philippines, Okinawa in Japan and Jakarta in Indonesia. Aside from the logo, the global governing body for basketball has also launched its new #DontMissABeat campaign in an effort to keep the basketball community united and active in the foreseeable future amidst the challenges the world is facing.
The concept for the newly unveiled 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup logo stems from three elements: the heart, the Naismith trophy, and the year 2023. The sideways heart symbolizes the passion for the game while the Naismith trophy is the dream for all the participating teams in the World Cup. The number '23', on the other hand, represents the year in which the spotlight will shine across the event's host countries Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. These three nations all have a strong passion for basketball and their love for the game is embodied in the new logo which would eventually bring millions of fans together with their hearts beating as one.
Promising to be an unforgettable event, qualifications for the FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place from November 2021 to February 2023 with the first window to be held on November 22-30, 2021. Eighty nations from different parts of the globe will compete in six windows and vie for the 32 slots in the flagship competition where the Group Phase, the first part of the event, will be played in the three host cities and the Final Phase to follow in the Philippine capital of Manila. The Philippines, Japan and Indonesia will both share the same passion and the same dream, having thrice the pride and creating three times the energy and excitement throughout 17 days of action.
The #DontMissABeat campaign aims to encourage all fans to have fun with music beats linked to basketball on social media platforms such as a dribbling contest among other highlights. Over the coming weeks, national team players from the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia will take part in the said campaign which will be seen on FIBA's social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, WeChat and Weibo.
