Lucasfilm, the film production company best known for the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, is bringing back the LucasFilm Games brand as the new home of all its video game properties including upcoming Star Wars gamed and other undisclosed games in the foreseeable future and beyond. To mark the beginning of a new chapter in the era of modern and next-generation gaming, @LucasfilmGames on Facebook and Twitter are activated to deliver breaking news and more directly to gaming and non-gaming aficionados.
Lucasfilm's gaming division was first named as Lucasfilm Games from 1982 to 1990 before it was renamed as LucasArts. Disney, which acquired Lucasfilm Ltd. including the Star Wars franchise back in 2012, announced that it will divert the division's rebranding back to Lucasfilm Games amid a renewed interest in gaming brought about by the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a statement, the resurrected Lucasfilm Games will sport a newly minted logo on all future Lucasfilm Games products which "encompasses the company's rich catalog of video games and its eye towards the future".
As reported by Slash Gear, the legacy of Lucasfilm Games goes back to 1982 when George Lucas founded the studio. It was originally established for internally developed games and was eventually folded into LucasArts in the 90s with Electronic Arts acquiring the rights to publish Star Wars games. The revival of the Lucasfilm Games brand marks the entry of Lucasfilm's gaming division towards a new and unprecedented phase of creativity in which forthcoming titles will be developed in collaboration with some of the finest studios across the industry.
