During the final moments of BlizzConline's opening ceremony, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed Diablo II: Resurrected, the definitive remastering of the original 2001 PC action RPG game and its Lord Of Destruction expansion pack which are highly regarded as hallmark entries in the company's genre-defining action role-playing series. The return of one of the most acclaimed titles in PC gaming history brings back veteran heroes and invites a new generation of players to experience the game's sinfully dark storyline, thrilling loot chase, and visceral hack-and-slash gameplay with modernized visuals that take advantage of the latest gaming hardware.
Diablo II: Resurrected takes the 2D sprite-based classic towards the present with full 3D physically-based rendering, dynamic lighting, revamped animations and spell effects - all presented in 4K high-definition resolution. All 27 minutes of the game's opening cinematics chronicling the journey of the Dark Wanderer has been remade from the ground up. The nightmarish sounds of the Sanctuary and its memorable soundtrack have also been reinvigorated with Dolby 7.1 surround sound. With these improvements, Diablo II: Resurrected is set to showcase the depth of gameplay and hallmark designs that continue to entertain players around the world until now.
Those who would prefer a more nostalgic experience can freely switch back-and-forth between modern and classic graphics with just a press of a button. Players can choose from seven highly customized character classes - Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, Sorceress, Druid, Assassin - and make the character their own by selecting skills and talent builds, crafting and socketing items, collecting complete gear sets, acquiring unique arms and armor, assembling Rune Word combinations, and much more.
Diablo II: Resurrected may be an all-new game that features a complete package, but the signature gameplay and systems of the original Diablo II remain completely intact with the addition of a few highly requested quality of life improvements. Co-developed by Blizzard Entertainment and in-house studio Vicarious Visions, Diablo II: Resurrected is slated to come out within 2021 on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch with cross-progression between supporting platforms.
