GMA News and Public Affairs undoubtedly dominated the Philippine digital space in 2020 with viewers trooping to its digital platforms in a tumultuously challenging year. According to data from video analytics firm Tubular Labs, GMA News led all Philippine media organizations in video viewership across all digital platforms for the year peaking at No. 5 worldwide last May 2020 at the height of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) imposed over Luzon. On the other hand, GMA Public Affairs recorded a total of 80 million followers across popular platforms and has eventually emerged as the most watched News and Politics media creator in Asia Pacific last September 2020 with its videos garnering over 6.5 million combined views on social media and more than 1.3 billion minutes based on data from Tubular Labs and social analytics platform Crowdtangle.
GMA News has gained more than 2 billion video views on YouTube and three billion on Facebook. The Kapuso network's main news page also led all Philippine news pages in total engagements for the year with 536 million likes, clicks and shares based on data from Crowdtangle. By the end of the year, GMA News has more than 52 million followers across all digital platforms. These platforms feature live and up-to-the-minute news reports from GMA's award-winning news and public affairs programs which include live streams of the network's flagship newscast 24 Oras and Express Versions of 24 Oras, Unang Balita Sa Unang Hirit, Balitanghali, State Of The Nation and Saksi. It has also stepped up the production of original videos for digital platforms such as GMA News Feed, a mobile-friendly short video series that delivers breaking news online, and Need To Know, a longform explanatory journalism series providing much-need content for the day's biggest stories and breaking news.
GMA Public Affairs' official YouTube channel, on the other hand, remains one of the largest content creators in the Philippines today with over 13.6 million subscribers and 2.8 billion video views for the past year. In April 2020, GMA Public Affairs hit the ten million subscriber mark making the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines the first in the country to receive twon Diamond Play Button awards from the online video sharing giant. Furthermore, GMA News and Public Affairs continues to navigate other budding social platforms in order to expand its audience reach across different demographics including Spotify, iTunes and TikTok where it was listed as one of its top five Philippine media creators for 2020.
