During a live stream event which took place last February, The Pokemon Company has announced three new Pokemon games that are slated to become available on the Nintendo Switch within 2021 and beyond as part of the ongoing 25th anniversary celebration of the beloved franchise. These games include the open-world action role-playing game Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the brilliantly shining remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl originally released for the Nintendo DS, and the photography game New Pokemon Snap.
Set in the old Sinnoh region and features a vast and colorful environment reminiscent of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will take place before the events of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and introduce new elements that fans have been clamoring for years. Unlike previous generations, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will now allow players to seamlessly fight and catch wild Pokemons while exploring the region's sprawling environment. The story will revolve around the mythical Pokemon Arceus and will feature Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshewott as partner Pokemons. Pokemon Legends: Arceus is slated to be released in early 2022.
On the other hand, slated to be released this year, the Nintendo DS remakes titled Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have been "faithfully reproduced and colorfully revitalized" for Nintendo's current console and will bring players back to the Sinnoh region with an updated gameplay and mechanics introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Among them, according to The Pokemon Company, are easy-to-understand and player-friendly conveniences of the modern Pokemon series as well as up close and personal Pokemon battle scenes. Since they are based on the fourth generation Nintendo DS systems, players will get to choose among Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup to be their first partner Pokemon while the games will feature legendary monsters Dialga and Palkia.
New Pokemon Snap, inspired by the original Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Snap, enables players to take on a budding Pokémon photographer’s role in the Lental region. Through this, players will work with Professor Mirror, the region’s expert, on an ecological survey to photograph Pokémons thriving in nature. In the game, players take snap photos of Pokémon in their natural habitats. A photo’s score will be based on the subjects’ poses, how large they appear, how directly they’re facing the camera, and where they fall in the frame. Each photo will get one to four stars, indicating how common or rare the behavior displayed is. Players will have to take many photos to fill out their Photodex, their compilation of Pokémon photographs.
Moreover, photos taken while conducting research can also be saved to a personal album separated from the Photodex. When a course is completed, players can use the re-snap function to adjust the brightness, blur, zoom, and other aspects of their recently snapped photos. After photos are saved to the personal album, a photo-editing mode will let players customize their photos with stickers, frames, and filters. New Pokémon Snap’s several online features also enable players to share photos and compete with others worldwide through ranking systems. New Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo Switch will be released on April 30, 2021 but gamers can pre-order their copy on the Nintendo Switch.
