MILO, the Philippines' favorite chocomalt milk drink, is encouraging the entire nation to do ten million jump skips along with students and MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, Health) teachers across the country. Slated to run throughout the entire month of June, the 10 million jump skips challenge is part of the nationwide Jump Rope For The Public School System project which is a tripartite partnership between the Department of Education (DepEd), MILO and the Philippine Jump Rope Association (PJRA).
The nationwide challenge, which kicked off in celebration of World Milk Day and ends on June 30, aims to catalyze jump rope as part of DepEd's grassroots sports development program and properly train students, teachers and school officials on the basics of the sport. MILO is supporting the initiative by (a) sponsoring jump ropes that DepEd will distribute to over 150,000 Grade 4 students and 30,000 teachers in the country, (b) co-creating instructional videos with the PJRA that are freely accessible through the MILO Sports Clinics Online (MSCO) program on YouTube, and (c) sponsoring a virtual interschool department with the support of DepEd within school year 2021-2022.
MILO provides kids access to alternate home-based sports through online programs co-created with its partner organizations. As activities are limited by what can be done indoors, jump rope becomes a popular exercise for kids that requires minimal space and eventually helps them stay fit and strong at home. All you need is a skipping rope and the winning energy to keep going. The PJRA is the recognized local authority created to promote jump rope as both a competitive sport and recreational fitness activity. The organization is sanctioned by the International Jump Rope Union (IJRU), the global governing body for the sport of jump rope/jump skipping. “Jump rope is a fun activity for kids that can be done anywhere and any way. Studies also show that it can help improve motor skills and promote good mood. We are excited to work with MILO in spreading our love for jump rope and bringing it closer to kids through their online sports clinics,” said PJRA President Noel Agra.
On the other hand, DepEd is also exploring efforts to introduce jump rope to the schools' physical education program, conduct physical or virtual training sessions or classes, and organize intra- and inter-school competitions in line with its mission to find innovative ways to make learning fun and conducive for students. According to DepEd Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs, External Partnership and Project Management Service Hon. Tonisito Umali, Esq., “Active kids are better learners because exercise can help improve memory, behavior, and concentration. We’re delighted to partner with MILO once again as they help us achieve one of the goals of the Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan in promoting the well- being and protection of learners in this new normal. This will increase the physical resilience of learners which will translate to improved academic performance."
Those who are taking part in MILO's 10 million jump skips challenge can share a photo or video of yourself doing the said challenge on social media and indicate the number of jump skips made with the inclusion of the official hashtag #MILO10MSkips.
