In 2020, global smartphone brand vivo launched the VISION+ project which aims to encourage the joint creation of images, public education and the exploration of aesthetics in fulfillment of its ultimate goal to encourage users to embrace the joys of creativity and to accelerate the development and recognition of mobile imaging and an important part of the overall initiative is the VISION+ Mobile PhotoAwards aimed at promoting mobile photography as a platform for global conversations regarding the topic and encourage participation from professional photographers, enthusiasts and mobile phone users.
The inaugural edition of the vivo VISION+ Mobile PhotoAwards received more than 135,000 mobile photography submissions and presented 38 awards from nine countries and regions from across the globe including China, UK, France, Spain and Russia among others. Creators from many different backgrounds and cultures have showcased a rich tapestry of works showing the diversity and vibrancy of life around the world including lively portrait, quaint folk life and magnificent landscapes. In partnership with National Geographic and in response to a wealth of rich, creative content and enthusiastic feedback from the public, the vivo VISION+ Mobile PhotoAwards returns for a second season this 2021 featuring an incredibly authoritative and professional judging panel and new categories across three different groups - the Open Group, Youth Group and Professional Group.
The Youth Group is a special feature focusing on the subject of Surroundings while the Open Group comprises six categories, namely: Portraits, Night, Sports, Nature Life and Places. Both groups emphasize the beauty of daily life, human emotions and memories. On the other hand, the Professional Group includes News, Creative and Documentary Projects categories encouraging professional photographers to interpret and express their feelings on modern culture, social trends and defining moments of the year. The judging panel for this year's edition will be composed of six internationally acclaimed photography experts and academics from diverse disciplines who will evaluate photography entries from their respective professional viewpoints and offer comments and guidance to help talented creators express themselves better through mobile photography. The judges include documentary photographers Martin Parr and Jonas Bendiksen, portrait photographer Xiao Quan, Les Recontres D' Arles curator Laura Serani, ZEISS photography expert Bertram Hoenlinger and National Geographic photo consultant Michael George.
The competition will feature and present 33 awards across all categories and the winners of these categories shall receive prizes such as cash prizes, smartphones and certificates as well as creative support from vivo. In addition, the brand will collaborate with industry partners to provide the winners with opportunities in commercial photography, urban outdoor exhibistions and publication of photographic works.
