After two years of hiatus due to the global pandemic, AirAsia Philippines and Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) are once again parading the streets of Davao City as the two major airline companies go all-out in joining and supporting the colorful and festive 37th Kadayawan sa Davao.
Similar to its previous grand parade floats, AirAsia Philippines’ float showcases the celebration of Davao’s rich and diverse culture. Decorated with Davao’s flora and fauna, the Philippine Eagle and the Manobo tribe, other Davao City landmarks such as the Marco Polo Hotel and San Pedro Cathedral, the AirAsia float also symbolizes the coming together of different tribes and people from different walks of life. AirAsia’s livery which is seemingly taking off above the float signifies that it is now safe to travel. AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson and Head of Communications and Public Affairs Steve Dailisan said, “AirAsia pays tribute to this much awaited festive celebration with our Dabawenyo friends. After 2 years spent in isolation, we are one with Davao in shouting through the skies: We are back. We are here. And we are stronger than ever as we win as one.” The local government of Davao City has decided to open this year’s Kadayawan festival in public places to boost economic activity. 50,000 local and foreign guests are expected to attend the weeklong activities. While this is still far from the 2019 Kadayawan attendees of 250,000 local and international tourists, the local government said it’s a good start especially in inviting tourists to once again visit the city.
AirAsia Philippines recently launched on August 18 its 4x weekly flights to Davao from Cebu, with plans of increasing to 7x weekly by September. Meanwhile, Manila-Davao flights will also be increased from 21x to 28x weekly next month. “AirAsia Philippines is now strategically boosting its inter-island route network to support the resumption of economies in different megacities and provinces. More than giving tourists an alternative mode of transportation, AirAsia Philippines would also like to support trade organizations as they slowly recover and restore their operations,” Dailisan added. Guests flying in and out of Davao City can enjoy AirAsia Philippines’ FLASH SALE happening on August 22-28, 2022. Guests may avail of the Php88 one way base fare from Manila to any of our domestic destinations, and Php788 one way base fare to any of our international destinations for travels from September 1, 2022 to March 25, 2023. On the other hand, CEB has an ongoing seat sale exclusive for the Davao region that will run until August 26, 2022 to stimulate travel to the region. Experience Davao for as low as Php88 one-way base fare for travels until January 31, 2023. Over the weekend, CEB flew to Davao leading adventure travel bloggers and online lifestyle journalists from Manila to experience the rich culture, sights, and sounds of Kadayawan in Davao City in partnership with several tourism establishments. “We are happy to finally celebrate Kadayawan face-to-face after a long time. We appreciate the support of Cebu Pacific and other Philippine carriers in enticing both local and foreign tourists to visit Davao and its surrounding areas. Davao has so much to offer, whether it’s cultural heritage, outdoor adventure, island experience, or delicious Filipino food,” said Department of Tourism Davao (DOT 11) regional director Tanya Rabat-Tan. “We want to give every Juan a convenient and affordable air travel, that is why we encourage families, friends, and even solo backpackers to take advantage of this promo and fly to Davao. Likewise, those from Davao can also book to other destinations in the country, like Bohol, Cebu, Iloilo and Zamboanga,” said CEB Corporate Communications Director Carmina Romero.
Davao is one of the pioneer routes of Cebu Pacific with the maiden Manila-Davao-Manila service in 1996. In 2008, CEB designated the Davao City International Airport as its hub in Mindanao. It remains as one of CEB’s largest hubs. Starting August 24, CEB will increase its flight frequency between Davao and Zamboanga from five times to seven times weekly. CEB currently flies 8x daily from Manila to Davao, thrice daily from Davao to Cebu, thrice weekly from Davao to Bohol (every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday), and daily from Davao to Iloilo. The airline continues to offer its guaranteed low fares to stimulate travel across its widest domestic network and continues to implement a multi-layered approach to safety.
