Award-winning Kapamilya actors Judy Ann Santos and John Arcilla will be officially part of “The Bagman", a spin-off from the critically acclaimed digital series “Bagman" starring Arjo Atayde, which will be co-produced by ABS-CBN International Productions, Nathan Studios, Rein Entertainment, and Dreamscape Entertainment. Set to be an eight-part action drama, "The Bagman" aims to commence its production in January 2024 and secure pre-sales at the Asia TV Forum (ATF) market on December 5-8, 2023 in Singapore with the 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards Best Actor gracing the event.
"The Bagman" will serve as a major comeback of Judy Ann who won Best Actress at the 41st Cairo International Film Festival for Brillante Mendoza's "Mindanao" and was last seen in the 2019 Kapamilya primetime series "Starla". Meanwhile, "The Bagman" will be John's second international series after his historic win as the first Filipino that was hailed as Best Actor at the 78th Venice Film Festival for Erik Matti's "On The Job (OTJ): The Missing 8". Director Ruel S. Bayani, head of ABS-CBN International Productions, shared that they are 'thrilled' to have both Judy Ann and John on board. “As we continue to advocate for Filipino representation, we are thrilled to also be announcing the award-winning talent of Arjo, John, and Judy Ann who are now part of The Bagman,” Direk Ruel said in a statement.
Direk Ruel also emphasized ABS-CBN's commitment to champion Filipino stories on the global stage with "The Bagman", stating, “Filipino programming is continuing to grow and expand and we are honored to be at the forefront in offering diverse new projects to meet the growing demands of the industry." Arjo is set to reprise his role as Benjo Malaya, a neighborhood barber turned governor's henchman entangled in a perilous web of crime, corruption, and political turmoil. In “The Bagman", Benjo discovers the tragic news of his missing family, compelling him to re-enter the underworld he had abandoned. Tasked as a bagman for the sitting president of the Republic of the Philippines, Benjo embarks on a mission to avert an impending civil war. "The Bagman" will be ABS-CBN's second international series after "Cattleya Killer" which also starred Arjo and debuted on the top spot of Prime Video Philippines' most watched list.

Instituto Cervantes, the Embassy of Spain, Acciona and Haribon Foundation held a tree planting activity in Tanay, Rizal last November 21, 2023 as a fulfillment of the Pelicula en verde, the environmental initiative of the 22nd edition of the PELÍCULA>Pelikula Spanish Film Festival. The tree planting activity was led by Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Miguel Utray, Instituto Cervantes Director Javier Galván, Acciona Southeast Asia Director Rubén Camba, and Haribon Foundation Chairman Dante Ang. Also present in the ceremony were Rizal Provincial Vice Governor Reynaldo H. San Juan, DENR Assistant Secretary Arleigh Adorable, Municipal Administrator Jeffrey Pino, and Haribon Chief Operating Officer (COO) Anna Rita Varona.
This initiative is a first for the PELÍCULA>Pelikula Spanish Film Festival, which is organized by Instituto Cervantes every October. For this year, in an effort to increase awareness on the importance of protecting our environment while at the same time complying with its mission to promote Hispanic culture, Instituto Cervantes created a pledge scheme wherein for every spectator of a film in the Pelicula en verde section, a tree will be planted. Instituto Cervantes, the cultural arm of the Spanish Embassy, therefore collaborated with Haribon Foundation, an NGO dedicated to the conservation of natural resources, and among whose activities include tree planting, and Acciona, a leading Spanish company in the field of sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy, to sponsor the planting of the trees. Acciona’s Southeast Asia regional headquarters is in Metro Manila with projects in construction and water in the Philippines including the Cebu cable-stayed bridge, Putatan II water treatment plant, and parts of the railway linking the town of Malolos with the Clark International Airport in support of efficient mobility towards a low carbon economy. Acciona’s advocacies are geared towards sustainability.
According to Ambassador Utray, one of the main concerns of Spanish society today is the protection of the environment. According to Director Galván, “Through the powerful medium of cinema, the recent film festival was partly programmed to focus and highlight environmental films and issues. Culture is a catalyst of human relations, and Instituto Cervantes acted as a matchmaker between actors in the field of sustainability and the environment, such as Haribon and Acciona. This project is an example of how Spain and the Philippines are working hand in hand for a common concern that has no borders.”

CJ ENM HK Closes Deal With Paramount Global Content Distribution For First Window Slate And Exclusive Pay TV Rights To Seven Premium Korean Series In Southeast Asia

CJ ENM Hong Kong (CJ ENM HK) officially closes the deal with Paramount Global Content Distribution (Paramount GCD) for exclusive Pay TV rights to 7 premium Korean series which are co-financed by Korean online entertainment platform TVING and global streaming service Paramount+ with tvN and tvN Movies acquiring the first window slate in Southeast Asian territories, particularly in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore where the Regional Network continues to dominate the Pay TV ratings. These productions are part of a global strategic partnership between CJ ENM and Paramount Global that was announced in December 2021. Apart from co-financing, these will also debut on TVING in South Korea and Paramount+ in U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria and are distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
In its first airing in Southeast Asia, tvN viewers will be able to catch the highly anticipated suspense drama “A Bloody Lucky Day” starring Yoo Yeon-seok (Dr. Romantic, Hospital Playlist 1 &2), Lee Sung-min (Juvenile Justice) and Lee Jung-eun (Our Blues, Yonder). The series is separated into two parts with Part 1 (Episodes 1-6) premiered last December 2nd and Part 2 to debut in Korea on December 8th and via tvN on December 9th. tvN Movies, on the other hand, will debut “Yonder” and award-winning series “Bargain” in January 2024. “Bargain” is a remake of 2015 Korean short film of the same title starring Jin Sun-kyu (Extreme Job, Kingdom), Jun Jong-seo (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area Part I & II) and Chang Ryul (Lawless Layer, My Mister). The series won “Best Screenplay” award at the 6th Canneseries Festival, becoming the first Korean drama and OTT series to win at Canneseries and won the Critics’ Choice Award’ at Seriencamp Festival in Cologne in 2023. “Bargain” is a thrilling tale that follows a story of a man who entered a motel, little to know that his organs are being put to auction. On the other hand, “Yonder” – starring an ensemble of veteran A-list cast, Shin Ha-kyun (Beyond Evil, The Thieves) and Han Ji-min (Rooftop Prince, Our Blues), the story takes audiences on a romantic journey to a parallel world.
The 4 other dramas that ranges from thriller, period and narrative are slated for release in 2024 with more details to be announced at a later date.
