PH Bags Twelve Nominations At 2024 ContentAsia Awards

The Philippines bagged a total of twelve nominations for some of its biggest stars and among the wide range of highly-engaging and innovative content at the prestigious 2024 ContentAsia Awards 2024 which honors the best of local production in Asia. Debuted in debuting in 2020 during the pandemic at a time when there was a huge demand for screen-based content, the ContentAsia Awards annually recognize media and productions that showcase authentic Asian stories and entertainment to screens around the world.

According to the list of nominees for the 2024 edition released by ContentAsia on the awards' official website last July 15, 2024, leading the nominations for the Philippines is ABS-CBN, the country's premiere media and entertainment company and leading content provider, with six headlined by Kim Chiu for Best Female Lead in a TV Programme for her talked-about portrayal in the Dreamscape series "Linlang", Arjo Atayde for Best Male Lead in a TV Programme for his scintillating performance in ABS-CBN International Production's psychological thriller "Cattleya Killer", and Kaila Estrada for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Programme/Series for her role in "Linlang". These three top stars are competing against top talents from China, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and India. Meanwhile, Star Cinema's revenge-thriller film "A Very Good Girl," top-billed by premier actresses Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon, earned a nomination for Best Asian Feature Film/Telemovie competing against works from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan. ABS-CBN's original shows also received nominations with the youth-oriented digital series "Zoomers" up for Best Asian Short-form Drama/Series and the reality queer-dating show "Sparks Camp" running for Best Original Reality and/or Competition Programme. 

The country's largest and leading broadcast media giant GMA Network earned four nominations led by long-time veteran Kapuso broadcast journalist and GMA Integrated News and Public Affairs pillar Jessica Soho's documentary "Secret Slaves: The Jessica Soho Special Report On Human Trafficking" for Best Current Affairs Programme Made in Asia for Regional Asia and/or International Markets. Produced by GMA Public Affairs, the documentary examines the global issue of human trafficking through survivor testimonies and investigative reporting. The Kapuso Network's Sunday noontime musical comedy variety show "All-Out Sundays" is among the first lineup of nominees for Best Variety Programme, a new category that covers programmes with a diverse mix of entertainment elements, from music and comedy to dance, talent, and games. Meanwhile, its nomination for Best Asian Feature Film/Telemovie is the latest accolade of the award-winning fantasy-journey film "Firefly" from GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs under the helm and direction of Zig Dulay narrates the story of a young boy searching for the mythical island of fireflies described in his mother's bedtime stories while Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes also garnered a nomination for Best Male Lead in a TV Programme for his role as Napoy in the murder mystery drama "Royal Blood".

Completing the list of nominees representing the Philippines is People's Television Network Inc. (PTV), the national government's flagship commercial broadcast media company, with the youth-oriented lifestyle program "Iskoolmates" and the sports documentary series "Masters Of The Game" up and running for Best Asian Talk Show and Best Sports Magazine Programme, respectively. The winners of the ContentAsia Awards 2024 will be announced in a special ceremony slated to be held on September 5, 2024 during this year's Trendy Taipei Music, Arts and Innovation Festival in Taipei, Taiwan and will be selected among the nominees by a jury comprising of industry peers and insiders in the Asian broadcasting and content production and distribution scene.
