Originally constructed as a wooden structure during the reign of Emperor Augustus (2 BC–AD 14), it evolved into the monumental stone arena recognizable today during the Flavian dynasty, particularly under Emperors Vespasian and Titus in the 1st century CE. In antiquity, the arena hosted gladiatorial combat, civic gatherings, and large-scale public events — making it a cultural centerpiece of its era. Today, it remains the only surviving Roman amphitheater with all four side towers intact and a full representation of classical architectural orders. Its breathtaking limestone architecture has made it a preferred site for concerts, international productions, and major cultural showcases. Now, it will host a world-class mixed martial arts spectacle.
