In a world where every click, login, and payment matters, PLDT Enterprise is leading the charge in empowering Filipinos with safer, simpler, and more trusted digital experiences, showcasing how secure and collaborative technologies are helping build that trust across the Philippines as every digital transaction — from paying bills to running a business — depends on one thing: trust.
Together with global mobile industry body GSMA and key Philippine regulators – such as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), National Privacy Commission (NPC), and National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) – the corporate business arm of PLDT Inc. (PLDT) recently unveiled SmartSafe, the country’s first telco-enabled fraud management API suite that is globally certified by GSMA and developed in close alignment with national regulatory standards. “We are honored to launch SmartSafe alongside partners who are all united by a shared goal: a digital Philippines built on trust, safety, and innovation,” says PLDT and Smart Senior Vice President and Enterprise Business Group Head Blums Pineda. Coinciding with the nation's observance of International Fraud Awareness Month this year, the launch reinforces PLDT Enterprise’s call for stronger collaboration between industry and regulators to proactively combat scams and cyber threats.
At its heart is SmartSafe SilentAccess, the flagship solution of PLDT Enterprise’s anti-fraud API suite, which authenticates users directly and in real time through the nation-widest network of Smart Communications Inc. (Smart). The technology allows logins and transactions without relying on SMS-based one-time passwords (OTPs), thus providing a faster, simpler, and safer way to connect for both businesses and their end-users. Pineda explains, “Security is not just a technical requirement - it is the foundation for safe and sustainable growth. With SmartSafe SilentAccess, we are proud to be the first in the country to deliver the safest telco-powered authentication solution available today. Because when businesses and their customers feel safe, they have the confidence to grow.” But, SilentAccess is just the beginning. Beyond silent authentication, the SmartSafe suite will expand to include SmartSafe NetIdentity (Verify SIM and device authenticity), SmartSafe GeoCheck (Identify real-time network location), SmartSafe RoamStatus (Confirm roaming activity instantly), and SmartSafe KYCPlus: (Enhance identity verification via network intelligence). Collectively, these innovations position SmartSafe as the everyday guardian of digital safety: powered by Smart’s nation-widest mobile network, backed by GSMA’s global standards, and aligned with BSP, DICT, NTC, and NPC in strengthening the country’s digital trust framework. To power the SmartSafe fraud management suite, PLDT Enterprise partnered with Nabstract, a global enabler of Network API Platforms and a certified GSMA Open Gateway Channel Partner. The collaboration will further enable enterprises to gain real-time access to next-generation security tools and APIs to prevent fraud, protect customer accounts, and simplify user logins. Following the launch, PLDT Enterprise will also hold a partnership event with key aggregator partners – a celebration of the trusted ecosystem that powers solutions like SmartSafe. Pineda declares, “SmartSafe represents leadership in action: we are protecting end-users, empowering industries, and shaping a digital ecosystem where trust is the standard. This is the first step toward a Philippines where every login, every payment, and every digital moment is safe, seamless, and trusted.”

Building on the successful launch of SmartSafe, PLDT Enterprise joined top technology players, telcos, and policy leaders from across different parts of the globe at GSMA’s Digital Nation Summit 2025 to champion innovation and partnership through several sessions exploring how GSMA’s Open APIs and ecosystem partnerships can accelerate the country’s journey towards a fully digital nation. Pineda explains, “Leveraging on GSMA-certified innovations like SmartSafe, which the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has encouraged other telcos to adopt, we believe that progress will require the collective strength of our ecosystem. Our vision is a connected Philippines powered by collaboration, where industries, developers, and government work together through shared platforms and open innovation.” A panel discussion on “Connecting Possibilities: How Open APIs Are Powering the Next Phase Of Digital Growth” featured PLDT First Vice President and Head of Enterprise Product Management and Innovations Nico Alcoseba who detailed how APIs and GSMA Open Gateway are shaping innovation through open collaboration. These technologies unlock new possibilities for businesses through seamless integration, smarter services, and greater customer value – exemplified by PLDT Enterprise’s recently launched SmartSafe, a real-world example that strengthens digital trust through API-powered solutions. Meanwhile, a roundtable discussion on “Telco APIs Powering The Next Wave Of Fintech Security And Growth” had PLDT Enterprise Senior Manager and Head of Enterprise Innovations and Product Development Mickey Ruiz discuss how telco-enabled APIs can strengthen digital trust and fuel innovation across the financial technology ecosystem. At the main plenary, PLDT and Smart Head of Network Strategy Eric Santiago and PLDT Enterprise Head of Strategic Business Development, Mobile Private Networks, IoT and Emerging Technologies Gio Abaquin underscored how future-ready connectivity is powering digital transformation across industries and communities nationwide. Furthering PLDT Enterprise’s commitment to inclusive growth, PLDT and Smart Assistant Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Management Stephanie V. Orlino discussed how the eBizNovation program is enabling MSMEs to embrace digital tools and training that expand opportunities and boost competitiveness at the panel entitled “Empowering MSMEs: Advancing Digital Skills For Inclusive Philippine Growth”.
Beyond APIs and digital services, PLDT Enterprise continues to lead innovation in other sectors that rely on connectivity and collaboration. During the Summit, the company formalized a strategic partnership with Germany-based health tech innovator apoQlar through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing led by Pineda and witnessed by GSMA Head of Asia Pacific Julian Gorman and GSMA’s Head for 5G Industry and IoT Community Terence Wong. The collaboration pioneers the use of Mixed Reality (MR) technology in Philippine healthcare through HoloMedicine, a cloud-based solution that is powered by the 5G network of PLDT’s wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. (Smart). The technology enables health professionals to visualize and interact with medical imaging and patient data in real time without complex hospital IT integration. From championing open and secure innovation to forging new partnerships, PLDT Enterprise’s participation at the GSMA Digital Nation Summit 2025 reflects its continuing role as a catalyst for digital transformation across industries as well as for the entire nation. “As PLDT Enterprise continues to expand its API ecosystem and enterprise innovations portfolio, we remain steadfast in our goal to power progress through trusted, connected, and collaborative technologies,” says Pineda. SmartSafe underscores PLDT and Smart’s broader commitment to building a smarter, safer, and more connected Philippines where innovation and inclusion go hand-in-hand. The technology advances the integrated telco and digital services provider’s contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs): From strengthening industries, innovations, and infrastructure (SDG 9), enabling safe economic activity (SDG 8), fostering digital trust (SDG 16), and deepening partnerships (SDG 17).
