Building on its “Co-Intelligence” strategy — first established internally in September 2024 before its official public unveiling in October 2025 — the Mapúa Education Group (MEG) comprising of Mapúa University, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (MMCL), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MMCM), and Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC) announced another historic milestone: a group-wide collaboration with OpenAI, a leading research and product deployment company that launched ChatGPT. As part of this collaboration, the MEG will roll out ChatGPT Edu to its students and educators across the Philippines.
This announcement makes Mapúa the first academic system in the country to integrate the advanced features of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu. This move recognizes that in an era of rapid change, co-intelligence is no longer an option but a necessity in education, ensuring that human ingenuity is amplified by technology to meet evolving global demands. Reinforcing its goal to be a Global Apex of Innovation and Purpose, the MEG adopts OpenAI’s enterprise-grade educational suite, providing its students, faculty, and workforce with a strategic advantage over standard AI tools and moving beyond basic prompting and chatbots to sophisticated Agentic AI and Pro-Thinking capabilities. Deploying ChatGPT Edu also ensures appropriate privacy and security standards for those wishing to explore generative AI whilst at Mapúa-led institutions. OpenAI International Managing Director Oliver Jay said, “Around the world, there’s a growing gap between what AI can do and how widely it’s used. Education is one of the most powerful ways to close that capability gap, and the Philippines has a real opportunity to build AI fluency early, starting with educators and students. Mapúa’s rollout of ChatGPT Edu helps move AI from theory into practice, equipping its learners, educators, and workforce with the confidence and skills to use it responsibly in real academic and professional settings.”
A Unified Leap In Co-Intelligence
With ChatGPT Edu, MEG constituents will specifically gain access to specialized features designed for high-level academic and professional rigor. These include:
● Agentic AI: Empowering the MEG workforce and students to create custom AI agents and allowing them to streamline complex workflows in their academic or professional works.
● Deep Research & Reasoning: Enhancing academic integrity and ensuring the comprehensiveness of outputs with tools designed for more accurate data synthesis and credible source attribution.
● Pro-Thinking & Creativity: Producing highly-accurate visual and technical designs by utilizing the latest multimodal capabilities of AI.
Strategic Rollout To Empower The Mapúa Community
In championing quality and academic excellence, the MEG is implementing a phased rollout for this collaboration. MEG President and CEO Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo emphasized, “We are prioritizing the mastery of these tools within our targeted segments at the onset, such as faculty and identified programs that are heavy on research. By empowering our educators and students to lead in the ethical use of AI, we can ensure that our graduates will have superior level of AI literacy which they can leverage on enhancing the efficiency of the work that they do and serve as a competitive edge in global employability.”
Ethical Use Will Always Be A MEG Standard
At its heart, this integration is governed by a unified MEG AI Policy, a framework designed to ensure that while the technology in place is cutting-edge, the progress remains deeply human-centered and ethical. This systemic bridge connects every Mapúan — from the historic halls of Intramuros and the vibrant campuses in Laguna and Mindanao to our trailblazing digital community at the Digital College — creating a single, high-tech pulse across the entire Mapúa system. At MEG, students aren’t just learning about the future; they are entering the global ecosystem already fluent in the digital languages that will define it. Dr. Maestrecampo added, “As we embark on this new century, we are doing more than just updating our curriculum; we are evolving our very legacy into a future where human ingenuity and sustainable technology work as one. Working closely with OpenAI is one of our ways to contribute to our nation — empowering one co-intelligent learner at a time to build a better world for us all.”
