Beauty and the Beast

The modern retelling of one of Disney's timeless classic fairytales has made a mark not only in Philippine cinemas, but also in its history books as well. Disney's live-action adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" is now considered as the highest-grossing movie ever released in the Philippines.

According to Walt Disney Studios Philippines which is the distributor of the said film in our local shores, the romantic fantasy musical has earned a cumulative box-office gross of Php667.46 million on April 11, 2017 which was the 27th day of its showing in more than 300 cinemas in different parts of the country. The movie has surpassed the box-office gross of Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" and eventually overtaken that of local blockbuster films where most of them are produced by Star Cinema. This just proves that the tale as old of time is never forgotten even in today's modern world.

It is surprising that almost all of the top five films in the all-time highest-gross rankings in the Philippines are all distributed by Disney considering that the list include Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3 and The Avengers. Still, Beauty and the Beast is now considered the newest legend that hit local shores and shattered records not only in the Philippines, but also all around the world. Well, I can say that the Philippines is now Disney's new yard thanks to its plethora of wonderful blockbuster hits.
