I stumbled upon an article on SPIN.ph regarding a group of Filipinos based in Milan, Italy forming a program where they can develop young athletes in hopes of becoming part of the Philippine basketball scene, and I was surprised to learn that it has recently produced a Fil-Italian prospect who is now playing in the said scene as part of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Being considered as the most popular sport in the country today, basketball has influenced young Filipinos who are willing to fulfill their dreams and aspirations to be part of something bigger. This is where basketball enthusiasts and even veteran basketball players have set up comprehensive sports programs and basketball clinics in different parts of the country that aim to make young prospects improve their own skills in the sport they want to compete in, more particularly basketball, and yet it is rarely unusual for Filipinos living and/or working in other countries to make the same commitment as in their fellow countrymen.

Every now and then, I have seen and watched thousands of prospects compete in various local, regional and national tournaments whether on television or not, and it is very intriguing for most of these prospects to be seen in the local basketball scene. This reminded me of a basketball clinic in my hometown that is keen on training and nurturing future basketball stars who will one day compete in the future, although it has yet to produce a local prospect that will make an impact in our local shores. Still, it is good to know that these programs have earned support from various organizations including local governments, which makes pretty sense how Proudly Pinoy Milan began training future basketball stars.

So far, Proudly Pinoy Milan has trained 60 prospects who are slated to compete in tournaments all throughout Italy and is currently training a 14-year old on kickboxing as it is also branching out to other sports. It will only be a matter of time before we may see a future athlete winning the first Olympic gold medal for the Philippines, but what can you expect from a group of Filipinos nurturing the future of local sports all the way from Hetalia?
