Gearing
up for the conclusion of its seventh season, SM-National Basketball Training
Center recently introduced a new approach that would be effective in recognizing
the top high school basketball players in the Philippines - the weekly power
rankings system.
Released
every Monday on mainstream and social media outlets, the SM-NBTC Weekly Power
Rankings will recognize the top players who have took part in major high school
basketball tourneys from different parts of the country including NCAA, UAAP,
CESAFI and MMBL among others. The players will be ranked based on their overall
performance in their respective leagues especially impact, offense and defense
and it will be done via a selection committee consisting of renouned
sportswriters covering high school tourneys, two coaches and a statistician.
The
inclusion of a weekly ranking system for high school ballers has added flavor
and consistency to Philippine basketball's universal grassroots program as it
provides opportunity for future hoop stars to showcase their skills on and even
off the court and prove that they deserve to be the next big things in the
local basketball scene. In fact, the final rankings will determine the 24 top
junior players who will be slated to compete in the upcoming SM-NBTC All-Star
Game on March 2018.
