Despite being critical and sensitive on issues surrounding Hollywood
and having the lowest television ratings in history, the recently-concluded
Academy Awards never failed to showcase amazing moments and recognize the best that
has graced theaters around the world. If I have to pick the finest among the
moments that happened during the Oscars, I guessed there is one that has catches
the attention of not only myself but of Filipino netizens as well.
Prior to the start of the ceremony, 86-year old veteran actress and Oscar winner Rita Moreno graced the red carpet with the dress that she wore back in 1962 but modified to look a bit modern. In case you didn't know, Moreno won an Oscar for her impressively outstanding performance in the movie Westside Story. Moving on, Moreno proudly stated on social media that her 1962 dress was made by a Filipino and it was not just an ordinary Filipino as it happens to be the late Pitoy Moreno.
Her dress has quickly captured the attention of Filipino netizens
during Oscars night, but it would eventually become the 'talk-of-the-town' in
several media organizations. Although I never watched an Oscar or knew more
about either Rita Moreno or Pitoy Moreno, it is interestingly delightful for me
to learn that Rita's Filipino-made dress remains intact throughout the tests of
time and it makes me proud to be awed by how it presents itself today compared
to what went down in 1962.
With that in mind, I encourageously dared you to see the difference for
yourself between the pictures you have seen in this article.
