(SIES) recently announced that the company's world-renouned Gran Turismo video game franchise has sold 80.4 million units worldwide in its twenty years in the gaming world since its first back in 1998 for the original PlayStation console. These surprising numbers are definitely a delightful milestone for the series considering that Gran Turismo is indeed one of the most-loved franchises in video game history. 

Heck, even Polyphony Digital president and the man behind the successful franchise Kazunori Yamauchi was surprisingly delighted by these figures and thanked the gaming community for being part of a long, thrilling ride with the Gran Turismo series. In case you don't know, the Gran Turismo series has been providing gamers the most authentic and most enjoyable racing simulation experience and keeping them indulged on their own career and success as a virtual race car driver. The unprecedented success of the Gran Turismo franchise has spawned a unique reality series - Nissan GT Academy - where gamers from around the globe compete to become a real professional race car driver.
