HOOQ, Asia's premiere online video on-demand (VOD) entertainment
service, is now embarking on a new quest to find the finest scripts that are
well-deserved to be produced into pilots with the second season of the HOOQ
Filmmakers Guild on the horizon. This time, more aspiring and professional filmmakers
will now have a chance to showcase their most imaginative ideas for their own
television series as the guild is now accepting entries from Singapore,
Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, and the Philippines.
The success of the guild's first season where the Indian dramedy Bhak
was hailed as the grand winner has literally pushed HOOQ to provide new
opportunities for more filmmakers across the region to pitch in their own
concept with a chance to be turned into either an original series or a movie. The
HOOQ Filmmakers Guild will allow filmmakers to submit scripts that should be
treated as a 13-episode series but these should be in the language of the
country they are in.
For the guild's second season, a distinguished all-star panel of judges
comprising of some of the finest in Asian showbiz will select five best among
the scripts submitted that will be turned into a pilot. These will be provided
a funding of US$30,000 each for the production of the pilot episode which will
become available on HOOQ. The winner of the HOOQ Filmmakers Guild will be
determined by no less than the thousands of binge-watching HOOQ users.
By the way, joining the distinguished all-star panel that will make the
selection for the guild's second season are veteran Filipino actress Agot
Isidro (Changing Partners, Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough) and
internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jun Robles Lana (Die Beautiful, Bwakaw).
With these in mind, I am assumingly guessing that this will be the eventual
opportunity for any Filipino filmmaker to strut out and showcase something that
deserves to not only be viewed by millions around the world, but also be called
our own as well.
