Aside from the return of the NES Classic Edition in the gaming store shelves and the impending launch of the Genesis Mini on the horizon, 2018 would surely be a year for SNK and its hybrid video game system NeoGeo to have their own finest hour that would surely delight even today's generation of gamers and it is because of two different products that would surely make young and old gamers reminisce the time when these two iconic brands have made the scene in the gaming world - SNK 40th Anniversary Collection for the Nintendo Switch and the NeoGeo Mini.

It was in E3 2018 where Hamster Corporation officially announced a new classic gaming compilation celebrating forty years of what started as a typical Japanese-based arcade game developer in the late 70s, and it is literally a celebration since the 40th Anniversary Collection features thirteen games that have created their own scene in the gaming market way before SNK introduced the NeoGeo in the early 90s.

The classic compilation features a mix of games that were available in the arcades, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) or both which includes the Ikari Warriors trilogy, Alpha Mission, Prehistoric Isle, Athena, the action RPG Crystalis, Guerilla War and TNK III among others. Although it is slated to be released in just a couple of months, I'm sure that retro gaming enthusiasts will have mixed reactions on the new compilation. Those who are not interested in reminiscing their indulgence on the pre-NeoGeo era may consider getting any of their favorite NeoGeo games available on the Switch as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives program.

Set to become available soon, the NeoGeo Mini may be considered by many retro gaming enthusiasts as the true celebration of what SNK is known for throughout four decades of gaming and I don't blame them about it. Upon learning more about the retro-centric system through SNK's official website in English, the NeoGeo Mini will be available in two variants: the Japanese variant and the international one.

Both variants may look like a small arcade gaming system at first, but it is in fact a compact gaming console with two controllers and peripherals that can connect the console to the TV set. However, the biggest difference between the two variants is their gaming lineup though they both include 40 of the finest games released for the NeoGeo system. One case in point is that the Japanese NeoGeo Mini will have almost the entire King Of Fighters (KOF) lineup on its arsenal while the international variant has every Metal Slug game available. Most of the games to be played on the NeoGeo Mini are exclusive to either the Japanese variant, international or both so it is your choice which variant you want to consider for your own retro gaming pleasure.

With these two intriguing products coming to showcase the thrill and fun of SNK and NeoGeo during their time, young and old gamers should have more reasons why it is better for them to try bringing back their childhood gaming memories in today's modern world. It is certain that both the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection for the Switch and the NeoGeo Mini will surely you make you remember how you have enjoyed your favorite arcade games when you were younger.
