Have you ever been to the International Training Center for Pig
Husbandry? Well, I assume that many people traversing the wonderful city of Lipa
have never been there or learned that there was something like it. Well, it
makes sense that the reason behind this is that they were too busy shopping,
dining and having fun with their loved ones at SM City Lipa not knowing that
there is something behind that makes them a bit curious. And you know what?
They should be since it is only a few walks away from its behind.
The International Training Center for Pig Husbandry, situated behind SM
City Lipa and the City Hall compound in Brgy. Marawoy, is the only training
center in the Philippines and in Asia that specializes in pig husbandry. In
case you don't know what animal husbandry is, it is basically a branch of
agriculture concerned with animals that are raised for meat, fibre, milk, eggs
and other products. This includes day-to-day care, selective breeding and
livestock raising among others, and you should thank and check out Wikipedia
for such detailed information.
Only a rare few know that ITCPH caters to thousands of visitors from
different parts of the country, but I could ask anyone if there are any
visitors coming from other countries. Aside from its facilities and accommodations,
ITCPH is well known in providing intensive guidance to small and large scale farmers
on various pig farming practices through the use of classroom instructions
embedded with practical classes. To make it simply understandable, ITCPH is literally
a training school for pig farmers. But now, it is more than just an educational
facility.
On September 20, 2018, ITCPH staged its very first boar auction which
is an interestingly rare event that deserves to be given a huge nod from the
Philippine swine industry. In the field of pig farming, a boar is known in
Batangas as Barako considering that it is in fact a male pig. Depending on its
breed, one boar could be priced up to Php250,000 if it is sold. Probably the
first boar auction in the country eventually coincided with the opening of
ITCPH's new building, a world-class boar auction centrum that is definitely the
first of its kind in the Philippines.
Anyone want to have your own Barako in your farm? Then go to the
International Training Center on Pig Husbandry behind SM City Lipa and join the
boar auction that is uniquely brewing in the City For All Seasons. For more
details and updates on this uniquely rare event, visit ITCPH's official
Facebook page here.
