ESPN5
continues to step up its own game in the Philippine television scene as it
expands its sports core with the exclusive coverage of the National Cheerleading
Championship (NCC) bringing one of the most popular sporting disciplines in the
country today to a wider and broader audience and fortifying fearless to its resilient delivery of great local and international sports content.
Now
on its 14th season with the theme "We Are Fearless", the National Cheerleading Competition aims to provide a
platform for young cheerleading groups from different parts of the country to
showcase their prowess and discover the best and the finest who will represent
the Philippines and compete in the international stage. Cheerleading is
steadily becoming a fast-rising sport in the country and slated to boost the
nation's chances of winning its first Olympic gold medal considering that it
could possibly become part of the 2020 London Olympics.
More
than 300 cheerleading groups emanating from different schools, colleges and
universities across the nation are set to compete in the NCC this year which
already kicked off with its first regional qualifier event held last October 6,
2018 at Robinsons Place Las PiƱas. These groups will compete in various categories
including dance, drumline, and stunts among others and they will be scored
based on their performance. Cheerleading may be a competitive sport, but it can
also promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among others like any other popular sport.
There
will be a series of regional qualifying events taking place in different parts
of the country where the winners of these events will go on to the National
Finals. The National Finals is set to be held on either February or March 2018
and will be aired on both television and digital platforms. The winners of the
National Finals will compete in various cheerleading tournaments across Asia
Pacific as well as the 2019 World Cheerleading Championship to be held in Orlando,
Florida.
