When
the Big Bad Wolf made its maiden voyage in the Philippines in 2018, its purpose
was not literally as true as what it was in the fairytale books. Instead, it was
an all-day book sale which offered two million books that are available at interestingly
intriguing discounted prices. This was enough to grab the attention of many
book readers and enthusiasts from different parts of the country which made the
event a huge success. This year, it is set to make its second trip with two
million books up for grabs.
The
2019 Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in the Philippines will run for eleven days and offer discounted rates of between 50 and
90 percent on all books. And just like its previous outing, the sale will be
opened to the public 24 hours a day including to anyone who feels like shopping
for books either in the middle of the night or after a hard late night's work
at a call center. This time, bookworms should expect a better selection of
books that are tailored and well-suitable to Filipino tastes since last year's
offerings were curated with assumptions which posed a better understanding of
what Filipinos like in their choice of what to read today.
Children's
books are slated to be a huge hit in the local market during this year's sale
and what makes it more enjoyable for visiting young-ins to take a peek at these
shelves are the new books from Little Hippo that will be sprinkled with
augmented reality (AR) technology. By making them AR-ready, these books bring
new life to stories such as The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three
Bears. Through the use of the Little Hippo mobile app which is available to
download for free, special visuals will pop out when you read the book adding an
extra dose of magic to story time. Aside from the kids' books, there will also
be a special selection of grown-up reads ranging from fiction to reference
books, to graphic novels and even to coffee table and special interest ones.
Just
like last year, the Big Bad Wolf book sale will take place in three different
venues across the nation but it will be helmed by no less than the people from
Gawad Kalinga (GK) communities which will be hired by the event organizers
themselves following its unprecedented success in Cebu last year thanks to
their hardwork and good vibes. The Big Bad Wolf has pledged its support to
Gawad Kalinga (GK) and will continue to do so by helping build libraries and
donate a portion of profits from this year's sale.
