Whenever
I roam around looking at beauty salons flooding one side of downtown and people
giving out flyers on the salon's services and offers, I slowly began to wonder
what makes these businesses tick the same way as internet cafes and food stalls
do. But when I learned about Shaping Futures on social media, I may have found
the answer to my wonders and it is an anatomy that makes one beauty salon a place
for a beautiful face to pamper.
Shaping
Futures is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program of world-renouned
beauty brand Schwarzkopf that aims to help and train underprivileged youngsters
to build their own future through hairdressing. Volunteer teams from Schwarzkopf's
partner salons bring their knowledge and expertise in the field of hairdressing
to these promising young lads in 25 different countries around the world
including the Philippines. They would later become skilled hairdressers whether
working in big salons or starting their own one or even home service and its
Philippine leg is no exception.
On the
second year of the program's Philippine leg, eighteen youngsters were able to
undergo training that took place in the SOS Children's Village in Barangay San Carlos, Lipa City. The
selection of these trainees was made possible through the assistance of SOS Children's
Villages across different parts of the country. After six weeks of training,
Schwarzkopf provided the youngsters basic hairdressing equipment such as straightening
and curling irons, hair blowers and other beauty kits that can be used once
they enter professional hairdressing.
The
Philippine leg of Shaping Futures 2019 culminated in a special fashion show
held last May 26, 2019 at the Event Center of SM City Lipa where 31 models,
eight make-up artists and seven designers have volunteered to participate and
take part in the event for the continuing support towards SOS Children's Village
but what transpired in the said fashion show was worth the hardwork and perseverance
endured by the aspiring hairdressers as their doors to a new chapter in their
lives would certainly open for them in the foreseeable future. In fact, Shaping
Futures has helped molded 19 young and underprivileged aspirants into those who
are making their own mark in the field of hairdressing since its inception in
2018. Five are now working at David's Salon while the rest have opened their own
salon or home service business.
Schwarzkopf's
Shaping Futures is a major factor in the anatomy of an aspiring hairdresser who
wants to make a mark or even a bigger one among others. Regardless of one would
accomplish, a hairdresser would never forget what he has learned and what or
who is the inspiration for its own success. A glimpse of pamper for every beautiful
woman's hair can never be impaled as long as there is a hairdresser ready to make
her locks a fine work of art in the forthcoming endeavors and that is what an
aspiring hairdresser needs to immerse to shape his future.
