It all began when the Araneta Coliseum opened in October 16, 1960 where
the largest clear span dome in Asia when it was built brings together people
from all different walks of life and allows them to experience the same high
atmosphere as a sports team's rousing victory or even an international pop
act's first major concert in the Philippines regardless of their social status.
Soon, there were many reasons for people to come over where the coliseum
remains firm and stands strong through the years and expanded to become a
premiere entertainment and leisure destination in the country. Undergoing
countless transformations over almost six decades, the Araneta Center can now
be considered as a city - the Araneta City.
On a milestone event held inside the Monet Ballroom of Novetel Manila
on September 24, 2019, the Araneta City reintroduced itself to the public with
a new logo, a new television commercial and its own tagline The City of Firsts.
It was graced by Araneta City management committee members, lessees, office locators,
brand alliance partners, agencies, representatives from various local media
outlets and members of the Araneta family and marked by performances from
Addlib Dance Group and Asia's Queen of R&B Kyla. The event eventually became
a touch point for guests to look back at the city's rich heritage of sixty
years serving the Filipino nation as it enters a new chapter in its storied history.
Honoring its pioneering heritage, the City has been bustling with many
new developments that have defined the beginning of its renaissance as well as
more that are slated to come in the foreseeable future. These developments
include the Gateway Mall, the Gateway Tower building and the Philippines' first
Novotel branded hotel that literally changed the Quezon City skyline. Alongside
them are the endless shopping and dining options in more than 2,000 shops and
restaurants, hundreds of shows a year inside both the SMART Araneta Coliseum
and New Frontier Theater, the freshest produce in Farmers' Market, a bevy of
bargains at Farmer's Plaza and so much more.
The transformation continues with the ongoing developments within the eight-hectare
PEZA-certified office hub Araneta City Cyberpark, the Manhattan Garden City,
the continuing expansion of Gateway Mall and the impending opening of the Philippines'
first Ibis Styles Hotel branch. As new buildings and facilities rise around the
city with the historic Araneta Coliseum at the center of it all, the soul of
the city will never fade. From then till now, the Araneta Center will always be
a place where everyone can make their own firsts and have their own place in history
with new milestones, endless possibilities and first-time experiences that
would surely be enjoyed by everyone.
