Lyceum Batangas Win Big In Provincial Consumer Skit Competition

Students of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Batangas have bested those from five other schools across the province who have showcased their acting and theatrical prowess and were hailed as grand winners of the 18th Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tanghalang Pangmamimili Sa Batangas which was held last October 3, 2019 at the Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Site Compound, Batangas City taking home a trophy and Php10,000 cash prize. 

As reported by Mark Jonathan S. Macaraig of the provincial capitol's information office, the competition is part of the provincial government's celebration of Consumer Welfare Month as mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 of 1997. Presented by DTI Batangas headed by its provincial director Desiderio G. Jurado III in partnership with the Provincial Government of Batangas, Department of Education - Batangas and Jollibee Foods Corporation, the annual competition allows junior and senior high school drama guilds from different public and private secondary schools in Batangas to present a 20-minute stage play promoting and uplifting people's consciousness on consumerism or sharing consumer education and information with this year's theme "Sustainable Consumption: Understanding The Impact Of Consumer's Choices In A Shared Environment".

Aside from being hailed as the grand winner of the competition, LPU Batangas was also hailed as having the Best Script and Best Director for Mr. Peregrine Santiago. Batangas Province High School For Culture And The Arts (BPHSCA) won first-runner up and received a cash prize of Php7,000 while Lodlod Integrated National High School finished in third place with Php5,000 cash prize and trophy and won a special award for Best Cheer. Other winners of special awards include Shirley May Ong and Joaquin Pimentel of BPHSCA for Best Female and Male Performer, respectively.

As a result of the provincial consumer skit competition, Lyceum of the Philippines University Batangas will represent the province in the upcoming regional consumer skit tilt on November where it will take on grand winners from different provinces across the CALABARZON region.
