As part of its undaunting support to the Philippine professional gaming
scene and with the purpose of encouraging national eSports athletes who are
slated to bring pride and glory to the Philippines in the upcoming 30th Southeast
Asian Games, Smart Communications Inc., the largest mobile telecommunications
company in the country, officially introduced to the press and the public the Get
Gold campaign in which players, coaches and team managers will be given cash incentives
for every gold medal won in the biennial meet's first ever eSports competition
on December 5-10, 2019.
SIBOL eSports is comprised of some of the best and finest professional
gamers from different parts of the country selected based on prowess and
potential in the games that they are played. Brought together to heed the call
of the nation and its professional gaming community as their representatives
and united through the team's official battlecry Lakad Matatag which has been a
significant part of the global DOTA 2 scene until now, SIBOL eSports is all set
to walk proud and strong no matter the challenge and strive to come out on the
top of not just the SEA Games, but also the international pro gaming circuit as
well in the foreseeable future.
SIBOL athletes in team events such as DOTA 2, Arena of Valor and Mobile
Legends Bang Bang will receive a cash incentive of Php2 million upon fulfilling
their mission of winning a gold medal in the biennial meet while those who are
participating in Tekken 7, Hearthstone and StarCraft II are slated to take home
Php1 million cash once they bring home the gold. In preparation for their upcoming
quest for gold, Smart opened the doors of the Smart SIBOL Training Grounds to
the team as its headquarters equipped with the latest network innovations
powered by Smart's nationwide 4G LTE network. Furthermore, there will be a
series of pocket tournaments and test events in the coming weeks which are out
to further hone the athletes to virtual fighting form in the SEA Games.
Its support for the Philippine national eSports team is part of Smart's
storied history of championing the Philippine professional gaming scene and
producing local eSports athletes competing in various professional gaming tilts
in and out of the country. Since 2013, Smart has been providing local gamers a
platform for them to showcase their gaming skills and prowess at grassroots and
world-class events such as ESL One Manila 2016, Manila Masters 2017, ESGS (eSports
and Gaming Summit) and The Nationals, the country's first franchise-based
