Jollibee, the largest fastfood chain in the Philippines, surprisingly kicked off the new year with an official statement released on its social media accounts that its Champ burger will soon phase out in all of its stores nationwide and that literally shocked and eventually saddened many Filipino foodies especially those who have tried and experienced eating the iconic burger more than once in their lives.

Highly regarded as the first double beef patty burger being served in a local fastfood chain, the Champ has been among Jollibee's well-loved staples aside from the Yum!, Jolly Spaghetti and ChickenJoy since its first store was opened in the late 70s. Aside from the beef patties, the Champ is flavored with cheese, tomato, lettuce and other ingredients. Heck, there is a mascot named after the heavyweight burger. Above all else in all honesty, there is nothing special about Jollibee's Champ but I guess it has been involved in the fond memories shared by Filipinos on social media through the years.

Aside from the Champ's immediate phaseout, Jollibee's statement also included the pullout of its Big Burger Steak meal since New Year's Day which was not considered a huge concern for its customers. According to the brand, its products are undergoing a review where it will be used for further forthcoming improvements in the foreseeable future. Fortunately, among these improvements is the possible return of the Champ which would surely delight customers once again if it is. For now, we can still enjoy the red bee's other favorite meals and food products including the double Yum! burger, regular burger steak, Jolly Spaghetti, ChickenJoy, Jolly Crispy Fries and more.

To be honest, I've never experienced eating a Jollibee Champ throughout my life. It may be because of its price tag which literally turned off some customers and can probably be considered as among the major factors behind the Champ's sudden pullout. But that doesn't matter, anyway, since Jollibee would continue to make its customers happy with its ambiance and great food wherever it goes. In the near future, I may be delighted to try out the Champ once in a lifetime if it makes a return for a long time. In conclusion, all I can say is "Smell you later, Jollibee Champ, and we'll see each other again soon."
