Sony Interactive Entertainment surprised the gaming world when it announced that the highly-anticipated PlayStation 5 will come in standard and digital editions. This intriguing announcement has literally made the anticipation for the next-generation console grow even further as gamers are weighing in on which is most preferred among the two that satisfyingly fits them. But while the console is yet to hit gaming shelves within the holidays, let's take our time to think it over and compare the two editions before making the monumental decision.

First things first is the big difference between the standard and digital editions of the PS5. Priced at US$499, the PS5 Standard Edition comes fully equipped with a disc drive and sports a more robust chassis which gives way to a disc drive in the lower right fin. On the other hand, considering that it has a smoother and leaner chassis and is priced at US$399, the PS5 Digital Edition is purely for digital copies. However, it can't allow you to play titles with no digital equivalent which basically includes old physical PlayStation 4 titles. This may be the basic case in comparing the disc and digital, but it all depends on one's own preference in which is better to their liking and why.

Those who want to prefer the PS5 Standard Edition may no longer have to wait for remastered and upscaled versions of their new favorite games since most of the physical PS4 titles will be compatible with the PS5. In fact, Sony has tested over 100 games and found that these games have worked smoothly on the console. It is made possible through a built-in integrated software that makes PS4 discs completely compatible with the newer system. If you're thinking of having your own digital gaming library, then the PS5 Digital Edition is the right one for you. The variant is environment-friendly and cost-efficient if you prefer looking at what is available at online gaming shops. In addition, it can play PS4 digital copies without any problems encountered and is more pleasing to the eyes for a more symmetrical looking console.

The only big problem that you will run into when having the PlayStation 5 is its storage as both editions are only equipped with 856 GB of internal storage. It can be expanded via either SDD (storage disk drive) or HDD (hard disk drive), though, but it is no assurance how will these cost. Anyway, in conclusion, it doesn't matter which among the Standard or Digital editions are best fit to your own liking. What matters the most is that you will be introduced to a new generation of high-definition gaming like never experienced before once you have bought and owned a PS5 regardless of your own personal preference.
