Netflix To Bolster Anime Programming With Five New Original Projects

During its recently concluded Anime Festival 2020, global streaming service Netflix has announced five new original projects and more details on some of its previously announced projects which is set to bolster its solid library of animation programming around the world. These add to the diverse and never-before-seen catalogue of intriguing, entertaining and highly-engaging stories made from its own creative team in Tokyo, Japan.

Anime has successfully cut through various categories on Netflix. In the past year, over 100 million households across the globe choose to watch at least one anime title on the popular streaming platform, growing by 50% year-over-year. Throughout the said period and so far, anime titles have appeared on the Top 10 list in over a hundred countries and remain strongly intact on the said list. Proving that great stories can resonate with fans globally, The Seven Deadly Sins became one of the top ten titles among all series and films in over 70 countries since its launch while BAKI made the list in 50 nations.

Throughout the fan livestream, Netflix introduced fans to a compelling lineup of animation programming that is set to become available in the coming months. The said lineup includes five new original projects, namely: Rilakkuma's Theme Park Adventure, Thermae Romae Novae, High-Rise Invasion, This Spoke Kishibe Rohan, and The Way Of The Househusband. Meanwhile, the streaming platform has also updated fans on its previously announced upcoming anime titles slated to be shown in 2021 including Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness by Capcom and TMS Entertainment, Pacific Rim: The Black by Legendary Entertainment and Polygon Pictures, Godzilla Singular Point by bones and Orange, Transformers: War For The Cybertron's second chapter EARTHRISE! by Hasbro and Rooster Teeth, Baki Hanma, Spriggan and Trese which is based on the Filipino comic novel of the same name.

Netflix also announced the addition of Anand Varma to its creative team as part of the platform's multi-year partnership program with French-based Gobelins Fellowship as stated by Chief Producer for Anime Taiki Sakurai. With these on hand, Netflix is upping the ante on challenging themselves in expanding its aspirational anime library for fans around the world as well as investing in new talents and promoting diversity from within.
