Premier Volleyball League, the first professional volleyball league in the Philippines, has a new home after forging a three-year broadcast partnership deal with Cignal TV, the country's leading pay TV service provider, that will allow Filipino volleyball fans to watch and enjoy live games featuring some of their favorite local volleyball stars across multiple on-air and digital platforms. These games are slated to be aired on free TV via One Sports, pay TV via One Sports+ on Cignal in standard definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) and Satlite, and simultaneous online streaming through Cignal Play.
"In our continuing effort to provide our viewers and subscribers with an unrivalled sports viewing experience, the addition of PVL to our lineup ensures millions of Filipino volleyball fans access to their favorite teams and players across our platforms along with other top-tier local and international sports content. We are proud to share the PVL's vision of uplifting Philippine volleyball and being competitive not only locally, but internationally as well. Our support for PVL goes far beyond broadcast. With the help of the MVP Group, we hope to help grow the league's fanbase through our group's various platforms and resources," said Cignal TV and TV5 president and chief executive officer Robert P. Galang.
For PVL's mother organization Sports Vision Management Group, its partnership with Cignal TV is very exciting and that it is looking forward to working with its new broadcast partner in growing the league and the sport of volleyball as well. "We are looking forward to working with Cignal TV given their years of experience in covering sports events. The pledge of support and encouragement not only from Cignal TV but also from the MVP Group Of Companies is both reassuring and exciting. As such, we are confident that the coverage of the PVL will be excellent to the benefit of its viewers," said Sports Vision President Ricky Palou.
With the newly-forged deal, PVL becomes the newest addition to the array of popular and world-class local and international sporting events acquired by Cignal and TV5 Network Inc. including the PBA, UAAP, Philippine Superliga, ONE Championship and its men's volleyball counterpart Spikers' Turf prior to the impending staging of its maiden season as a professional league. Initially launched in the 2000s as the Shakey's V-League, PVL matches through the years were aired on GMA News TV and ABS-CBN's S+A. The league is eyeing to start its new season on April under a "bubble" setup at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna and as mandated by the Joint Administrative Order signed by the Department Of Health (DOH), Inter-Agency Task Force Against Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), Games and Amusement Board (GAB) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
