Universal Pictures' "Fifty Shades Darker" has just recorded the highest-grossing opening day for an R-18 movie being shown in Philippine cinemas and even for an R-16 film as well.

The second installment of the film franchise based on the worldwide best-selling "Fifty Shades" phenomenon has earned Php18 million on opening day. Its opening day receipts has surpassed the Php15 million opening-day gross of the original "Fifty Shades of Grey" in 2015.

Prior to the showing of the movie, Fifty Shades Darker was approved for exhibition by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board with an R-18 rating meaning that the movie is strictly for viewers 18 years old and above. Meanwhile, local entertainment press has acknowledged one of the gowns used by Dakota Johnson as Anastacia Steele in one of the movie's major scenes considering that it was designed by Filipino designer Monique Lhuiller.

With the box-office success of Fifty Shades Darker not only in the Philippines but also in the United States and other countries, expect more intimately appealing scenes on the third and final installment of the Fifty Shades film trilogy as Fifty Shades Freed is slated to be shown in theaters next year.
