More Filipino households are enjoying their own television experience
via cable, direct-to-home satellite, and especially digital terrestrial
television which they are now considered as "digitally-enabled".
In fact, based on data from Kantar Media, 72% of households in Metro
Manila have already bade their farewell to old analog TVs and made the shift to
digitally-enabled platforms while the rest are still using the old technology.
This is because more viewers are patronizing ABS-CBN TV Plus, the first commercially
available digital television service in the Philippines which provides
crystal-clear picture and sound quality and exclusive channels at an affordable
one-time-only payment.
Kantar also states in its establishment survey which was being
conducted last February, May and August that 55% of Metro Manila households
without cable own an ABS-CBN TV Plus digibox which eventually comprises 22% of
those living in the Mega Manila area that does not have cable as well.
Since its inception on February 2015, ABS-CBN TV Plus was able to sell
more than 3.6 million units and boost the network's ratings in the Metro and
nearby provinces which is quite a rare feat. Not only that, one of the black
box's exclusive channels has been recently listed as one of the top five television
channels in the Philippines today which happens to be the all-day movie channel
Cinemo. Other exclusive channels that are available on TV Plus include DZMM
Teleradyo, Knowledge Channel and the kids channel Yey.
By 2023, the Philippines will fully implement its transition from
analog to digital terrestrial television using the Japanese ISDB-T standard
which could benefit millions of households and it looks like ABS-CBN is leading
the way of making the transition more accessible to every Filipino household
thanks not only to the magical black box but also to its growing number of digital
platforms and strong presence.
