There
are three things one consumer need in order for him or her to enjoy reliable
high-speed mobile internet experience - an LTE-capable smartphone, a stable 4G
LTE network and an LTE-capable SIM card. And with the growing variety of LTE-capable
smartphones available in the market today, it looks like more Filipino smartphone
users are starting to consider using LTE-capable SIM cards for better experience.
But,
how can we tell if the SIM card we are using on our smartphones is LTE-capable
or not? This is where Smart Communications comes in with a recently-launched service
called SIM Check which would allow prepaid and postpaid subscribers can check
via SMS if they are using an LTE-capable SIM card or not.
Smart
users may need to text SIMCHECK to 5382 on their mobile phone and the telco
will notify you through text if your SIM card is capable of fast 4G mobile
internet speeds or not. There is no need for any little additional charges for
that since the service is made to be free. Those who don't have an LTE-capable
SIM can go to a Smart Store in their area and have their old SIM card replaced
without the need for you to change your mobile number.
If
you are wondering why Smart's SIM Check SMS feature is needed for that matter,
then it is simply because of many possibilities that there are some users who have
non-LTE SIM cards on LTE handsets and eventually vice-versa at least according
to Smart VP for network planning and engineering Mario Tamayo. Fortunately, I
am likely to agree with Tamayo's justification but it all depends on how users
experience mobile browsing on their smartphones. Anyway, for Globe subscribers,
they should call the company's hotline and provide their SIM card's serial
number to determine if the card has LTE capabilities or not.
