As reported in one of my previous articles a few weeks ago, Vivo Philippines
forged a partnership deal with Ayala Malls on a major sporting event that is
slated to be held soon in the Philippines and that would be the HoopBattle
Championship Philippines 2018. In a press conference held last May 8, 2018 at
the Ayala Malls Vertis Tent, the exciting 3x3 hoops event is on the horizon and
is set to commence on the entire month of July in various Ayala Malls across Metro
Manila.
Officially sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), it
will be the first time for the tournament to be held in the Philippines
considering that it started and eventually gained traction in China. A total of
48 teams are slated to compete for a chance to represent the Philippines in the
HoopBattle Finals which will be held in China on October. Not only that, the
event is considered an engaging platform for local players to prepare for the
inclusion of the fast-rising 3x3 basketball to the upcoming Olympics.
The tournament is open for amateur and professional Filipino basketball
players and imports aged 18 years old and above. Teams are allowed to include one
female player which could be an interesting twist to the event. There will be a
team selection process which will be conducted by representatives from Vivo,
Ayala Malls, SBP, HoopBattle Championship, Virtual Playground and ABS-CBN
Sports. Once the selection is done, teams are encouraged to register at FIBA to
aid in the organization's official rankings.
By the way, ABS-CBN Sports has been tapped as the event's official
broadcast partner where it is set to deliver updates on what is happening
throughout the event via its marquee daily sports news program The Score.
Furthermore, Filipino hoops fans can enjoy watching the final showdown between
the remaining teams on the small screens with the live and exclusive airing of
the HoopBattle Championship Philippines Finals on July 29 on S+A and S+A HD.
