GMA Regional TV (RTV), the regional arm of the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines, stays true to its "Local News Matters" campaign amidst the challenges brought about by natural calamities and the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. With stations strategically located in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, GMA RTV consistently enables viewers to access local news in various communities outside Metro Manila.

Its unparalleled commitment to producing local news programs and specials that are more attuned to stories, voices and viewership in the regions has earned the trust of Filipino viewers across the country. In 2020, GMA RTV's regional morning shows and local newscasts garnered and tallied a combined reach of about 64% of television households in the Philippines estimating a total of 46.8 million viewers according to Nielsen Philippines' TV Audience Measurement's Total Philippines data from January to December of the said year. Furthermore, in the last two years, GMA RTV posted increased viewership for all of its regional newscasts in 2019 and 2020 based on data from Nielsen Philippines' Metro Cities TV Audience Measurement; thus, becoming the leading local newscasts in their respective regions.

In 2020, GMA RTV has launched pioneering morning programs in key regional hubs in the Philippines including Mornings With GMA Regional TV in North Central Luzon, GMA Regional TV Live in Central and Eastern Visayas, GMA Regional TV Early Edition in Western Visayas, and At Home With GMA Regional TV in Mindanao. On the other hand, GMA RTV's flagship weekly national newscast GMA Regional TV Weekend News continues to make the top stories from the regions available to more Filipino viewers nationwide every Saturday night on GMA News TV. Launched in 2019, GMA RTV Weekend News airs news and other special features delivered by no less than the roster of award-winning broadcast journalists and newscasters from RTV's local newscasts. This 2021, GMA RTV continues its commitment of bringing relevant news, stories and information from the regions to local and national levels with the launch of its sixth flagship local newscast GMA RTV Balitang Bicolandia starting February 1 on GMA RTV stations across the Bicol region.

With 2020 being one of the most challenging years to date, GMA RTV remained committed in delivering Serbisyong Totoo at the forefront of the biggest news stories from all over the regions. During calamities such as typhoons and earthquakes, these local news teams are on their feet, reporting directly from ground zero. Regular news updates are also provided to viewers through GMA RTV's string of special coverages including "Coronavirus Pandemic Alert", "Bantay Bagyo", "ASF Watch", "Linog Sa Mindanao", and "Baha Update". GMA RTV also rolled out its "Kapuso Barangayan On Wheels" providing families from different barangays in the regions with food packs, rice, and groceries as well as locally produced vegetables. The campaign has been able to reach more than 6,000 families since its launch in May 2020.

It is no surprise that GMA RTV's initiatives and efforts are being recognized by various local and national award-giving bodies. For the fourth year in a row, GMA RTV was hailed as the Best Regional TV Network in the 2020 Platinum Stallion National Media Awards. Meanwhile, GMA RTV's programs and projects have received a number of special citation merits from the Catholic Mass Media Awards including GMA RTV Weekend News as Best News Program, Kapuso Barangayan On Wheels as Best TV-Ad Public Service and Biyaheng DO30 aired on GMA RTV stations in Mindanao as Best Magazine Program. GMA RTV is also strengthening its presence online through its official website and social media channels. Its YouTube channel received a Silver Play Button award after reaching the 100,000 subscriber mark last year.

In the coming years, expect GMA RTV to remain steadfast in its commitment of delivering news that matter and stories that can inspire - enriching the lives of Filipinos in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in every step of the way.
